CANDOR — Newark Valley's string of goals without being scored upon would come to an end Wednesday evening. However, the Cardinals' winning streak would not as they spoiled SVEC's Senior Night with a 3-1 IAC South Large School victory.
Makenna Nechwedowich put shot into the back of the net to give NV a 1-0 lead at the half.
Leah Williams pushed the Cardinals' advantage to 2-0 less than three minutes into the second half.
Newark Valley increased its lead to 3-0 at 26:17 when Williams put her second shot in to the net on a pass from Isabella Shiel. It also marked the 25th consecutive goal scored without NV being scored upon.
That streak would finally end near the midway point of the period when the Eagles' Ava Bruehwiler broke free and drilled a left-to-right line drive into the net from well beyond the 18.
The Cardinals, winners of four straight, outshot SVEC, 21-2, and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
SVEC goalkeeper Savanna Tuttle made 18 saves, while NV's Christa Schanbacher had one.
