IAC CROSS COUNTRY: SVEC TEAMS TAKE SECOND AT TIOGA (2019-10-02)

TIOGA CENTER — The SVEC boys and girls teams both finished second to Notre Dame at the Tioga quad meet Tuesday.

The Eagles were without the services of their top runner, Callum Avery, and finished with 49 points, just three behind ND. Edison scored 62 points and Tioga had 65.

Ryan Hodges led SVEC with a fifth-place showing while posting a time of 20:11. Tyler Doster took seventh with a time of 20:30, Nathan Gillette was ninth in 20:59, Isaac Lindridge finished 12th with a 21:23 and Wyatt Stouffer closed out the scoring, taking 16th in 21:33.

Also competing for the Eagles were Ty Benners (17th, 21:52), Cameron Squire (19th, 21:56), Ben Dizer (20th, 21:58), Jared Martin (23rd, 22:28), Matt Fitch (24th, 22:54), Josh Menter (25th, 23:32), Liam Hiaman (39th, 28:02) and Luke Simonton (42nd, 29:22).

ND's Steven Gough won the race with a time of 18:34.

GIRLS

Jenna O’Connell paced SVEC with a time of 24:54, good for seventh place. Erin Bruttomesso finished ninth in 25:25, followed by Olivia Secondo, who was 10th with a 26:10. Mya Marsh took 11th in 26:20 and Olivia Bennett was 16th with a 31:24.

Notre Dame swept the top five spots to finish with 15 points. The Crusaders' Alexandra Cowley was first across the finish line in 23:19.

Edison and Tioga had incomplete teams.

SVEC competes in the IAC South Division meet Tuesday at Newark Valley.
