Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Owego played tough against state-ranked M-E, but came out on the short end of a 5-0 score here Thursday night.
The Spartans, who debuted at No. 17 in the Class A poll Wednesday, would tally early when Kaely Amereoux found the back of the net at 36:45 off a corner kick.
The Indians would hold them at bay until 17:32 of the first half when Bella Dirosa scored. Ari Michitti increased the M-E advantage to 3-0 with 10:52 remaining in the half.
Emily Hein contributed an early goal at 37:42 of the second half and the Spartans would net the final goal with 19:46 remaining.
M-E took 20 shots on goal to Owego's four and held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
Delaney Carrigg made 17 saves.
"We played the best we’ve ever played, which may not be reflected by the score, but it was a great competition played by both teams," said Owego head coach Heather Chrysler. "We delivered a lot of pressure and played at a much faster pace, and I don’t think M-E expected us to bring that to the field tonight.
"I’m beyond proud of the effort put out by our girls and we are becoming much stronger as a team. Delaney Carrigg had an amazing game in goal, stopping some incredible shots."
Owego hosts Vestal, an honorable mention in the Class A state rankings, Tuesday night.
