IAC CROSS COUNTRY: NV BOYS RUN TO VICTORY IN ELMIRA BEHIND SHERWOOD (2019-09-19)

TIOGA COUNTY — The Newark Valley boys ran away with the honors at the Elmira Notre Dame meet at Elmira College Thursday and the Cardinals' Jonny Sherwood was the first runner across the finish line.

The NV girls competed with an incomplete team.

BOYS
Sherwood posted a time of 14:01.6 to win a battle of state qualifiers as the Crusaders' Steven Gough was second in 14:27.9.

NV's Seth Hartenstein placed third, clocking 14:30.8, and Connor Yetter was fifth with a 15:01.8. Mark Vosburgh was seventh in 15:10.2 and Patrick Bishop rounded out the team scoring with a ninth in 15:51.5.

Placing 12th was Jacob Ludwig with a 16:07 while Noah Waterman was 17th in 16:43.8.

Also competing for the Cardinals were Anvil Illsley, Montana Wallace, John Fiacco, Tim Bishop, Kamden McCall, Aden Hollenbeck, Brody Hines, Trace Davis, Jason Knight and Andrew Post.

NV scored 25 points to Notre Dame's 51. Edison had 74 and Tioga had 51.

GIRLS
Renee Riegel paced NV with a second-place finish, registering a time of 16:46.5.

ND state qualifier Alyssa Walker won the race with a time of 15:36.8.

The Cardinals' Breanna Brigham was 10th in 19:08.3, Monica Escalante finished 13th in 21:21.6 and Charlotte Dunn was 16th with a 21:35.3.
