STAC GIRLS SOCCER: ITHACA PROVES TO BE TOO MUCH FOR OWEGO (2019-09-17)

Tioga County Sports Report
OWEGO — Defending Section IV Class AA champion Ithaca brought its game to town Tuesday night and displayed its talented lineup against the Indians' thin roster in a 7-0 win over Owego here.

The Little Red scored three goals in the first 10 minutes and never looked back.

Morgan Haaf netted the first one at 35:42.

Beth Duncan made it 2-0 at 31:05 and 31 seconds later

Gabrielle Hagen pushed the lead to 3-0.

Goals by Lucy Getzin with 28:25 left in the first half and Zoe Getzin with three minutes on the clock gave the visitors a 5-0 cushion.

Ithaca added another goal 88 seconds into the second half and Cedar Hermanet closed out the scoring with 18:13 left in the game.

"Ithaca is a skilled team that knows how to move the ball up the field and it took awhile for us to adjust and defend," said Owego head coach Heather Chrysler. "We played with much more intensity in the second half and had a few scoring opportunities."

Carmen Jorgensen attempted a direct free kick from just outside the 18-yard line with 25 seconds left in the game, but it missed wide right.

Five of Owego's players are currently dealing with injuries, leaving the team's roster with very few players to substitute.

Ithaca held a 12-4 advantage in shots and goal and 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Delaney Carrigg made 11 saves for the Indians.

Owego (1-6) hosts unbeaten M-E (7-0) Thursday evening.
