IAC / STAC GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY: RIEGEL, O'CONNELL, COREY LEAD THEIR TEAMS AT OFA INVITATIONAL (2019-09-14)

OWEGO — Newark Valley's Renee Riegel placed 15th, SVEC's Jenna O'Connell finished 48th and Owego's Chelsey Corey took 49th to lead their teams at the OFA Invitational here Saturday.

Riegel posted a time of 20:34.1 as the Cardinals finished 13th with 285 points while O'Connell clocked 23:02.8 to lead the Eagles to 14th with 316.

Corey led a group of four Indians who finished less than 10 seconds apart. She crossed the line in 23:06.2. Mary-Carol Hoover was 50th, just .4 seconds behind Corey. Hannah Monell was 54th in 23:13.8 and Abigail Fahey took 55th in 23:15.7. 

Alyssa Stephens rounded out the Owego scoring with a time of 24:44.7, good for 71st. 

Also competing for the Indians were Katherine Gatto (76th, 25:10.8), Ella Reig (81st, 25:43.4) and Hailey McHugh (84th, 25:49.8).

For Newark Valley, Brianna Brigham took 59th in 23:57.4, Sarah Raymond was 73rd with a 24:52.9, Monica Escalante finished 100th at 26:56.7 and Charlotte Dunn was 106th in 27:27.7.

SVEC's Erin Bruttomesso placed 58th with a time of 23:55.6, Olivia Secondo was 77th in 25:17.3, Mya Marsh placed 98th with a 26:47 and Olivia Bennett was 112th in 28:15.4.

Waverly was the top Tioga County team, taking fifth and the Wolverine's was the top county runner, claiming fourth with a time of 19:07.1.

Elizabeth Fritzen was 13th in 20:24.4, Olivia Nittinger placed 17th with a 20:54.3, Paige Ackley took 37th with a 22:14.8, and Hali Jenner ended up 102nd with a 26:58.9.

Also running for Waverly was Morgan Lee (119th, 31:20.5).

Tioga had just two runners with Mariah Nichols placing 103rd in 27 minutes flat and Nicole DeBoer taking 122nd in 31:59.

Horseheads ran away with the team title, scoring 62 points to Montrose's 94. Corning (114), Elmira (130) and Waverly (146) rounded out the top five. Owego finished eighth (231), Newark Valley was 13th (285) and SVEC was 14th (316). Tioga had an incomplete team.
