SECTION IV FOOTBALL: OWEGO BOUNCES BACK TO RALLY PAST NORWICH (2019-09-13)

NORWICH — The Owego defense forced four turnovers and the Indians blocked a punt to rally past Norwich, 23-13, in Section IV Division II action here Friday.

Cameron Doane recovered two fumbles, the second one at the Norwich five setting up the go-ahead touchdown, and blocked a punt. 

Quarterback Nick Wasyln scored on a 4th-and-goal from the two with 2:49 remaining and Nate Bennett's PAT kick gave the Indians a 16-13 lead.

Cam Bundy would intercept a Purple Tornado pass on third down during the ensuing possession and return it to the three. Wasyln would score from four yards out to clinch the victory.

Owego would lead at halftime, 10-6, but trail 13-10 with around five minutes left following the second of Griffin Mills' two TD runs.

"We played a very physical game and came away with four turnovers and a blocked punt by Cam Doane," Owego head coach Steve Virkler said. "Nate Bennett had an interception and Sean Heffernan a fumble recovery. Good team win."

Gio Fabi contributed a 4-yard TD for Owego's first points of the game and Bennett kicked a 33-yard field goal late in the first half to give the Indians a 10-6 lead at intermission.

Owego (1-1) hosts Vestal (0-2) Friday.
