STAC GIRLS SOCCER: OWEGO SUCCUMBS TO UNBEATEN, UNSCORED ON M-E (2019-09-12)
Tioga County Sports ReportENDWELL — M-E came into Thursday's STAC Metro game with Owego unbeaten and unscored upon. Nothing would change 80 minutes later.
The Spartans posted a 6-0 victory, however, it did take them a bit to find the back of the net.
"We played tough against an undefeated team," Owego head coach Heather Chrysler said. "We held them for 17 minutes before they scored, which says a lot about our tenacity on defense."
Emily Hein and Izzy Borges scored two goals apiece to highlight the M-E effort.
Hein scored at 23:16 of the first half and Borges tallied at 5:14 and 3:14. In between, Emma Colling tallied at 18:30 to help give the Spartans a 4-0 advantage at intermission.
Hein started the second-half scoring at 34:28 and Alisa Cherednichenko scored with 24:54 left in the game.
"
We had difficulty transitioning from defense to offense to move the ball
down the field, but it improved in the second half," Chrysler said.
M-E held a 19-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 5-1 lead in corner kicks.
Delaney Carrigg collected 14 saves for the Indians.
"These girls play hard every game," Chrysler said of her team. "They can hold their heads high and be proud
of their effort."
Owego hosts Ithaca Tuesday night.
