IAC VOLLEYBALL: NEWARK VALLEY KNOCKS OFF EDISON (2019-09-11)
Tioga County Sports ReportELMIRA HEIGHTS — Newark Valley improved to 3-1 in the IAC South Large School division and overall with a 3-2 victory over Edison here Wednesday.
The Cardinals dropped the first and fourth games by 25-21 verdicts, but won game two, 25-17 and game three, 26-24. The final game went to NV, 25-22.
"I am so proud of my team for digging deep and earning the win after a long five sets and constant battle against a tough team like TAE," said NV head coach Kelsey O'Donnell. "After losing the first set the Cardinals had to fight their way back to a nail-biting glorious finish."
Allie Wandell contributed 20 assists, 13 kills, 13 digs, three aces and a block, and Emma Graves registered 23 kills, 19 digs, a block and an ace to lead NV.
Kayla Malarkey chipped in with five assists, three digs, two kill and an ace; Jordan Stiffarm had 27 digs, five aces, three kills and an assist; Kate Maine added 13 digs and six assists; Leah Hartenstein had seven digs; and Libby Northrop had two aces, a kill and a dig.
"The stats were off the charts as many of my players reached personal records last night," O'Donnell said. "Emma Graves had her personal best of 23 kills, 19 digs, one block and a hitting accuracy of 93 percent. Libero Jordan Stiffarm cleaned up in the back row with her personal best of the season with 27 digs and Allie Wandell had a stellar night with 13 kills, 20 assists and 13 digs."
For Edison (1-3, 1-3), Maren Lutz posted 12 kills, 17 service points and 14 digs; Ali Andreine had 11 kills and 14 digs; Mikayla Bush had 15 assists, 13 points and eight kills; Ryleigh Carson had 10 assists, 10 points and three aces; Sidney Cooper had 20 digs and nine points; and Hailey Fierro had seven kills and two blocks.
NV hosts Waverly Monday.
