BINGHAMTON — SVEC Youth Football picked up where it left off last year, sweeping Chenango Valley to open the Southern Tier Youth Football Conference season Aug. 24. 

The Eagles' "A" team, which won the "B" division Super Bowl in 2018, blanked CV, 22-0.

"They have their work cut out for them to get back," SVEC coach Cody Rose said. "They are great group of kids and work very hard and are determined to repeat."

The "B" squad, which reached the "C" division semifinals last fall, was dominant as well, routing the Warriors, 31-8.

"These group of kids now all have a year under their belt playing together," Rose said. "They are determined to make a deep run into the playoffs."

In the "C" division, which has changed from tackle to flag, started the day off with a 40-26 triumph

"The 'C' team is a new group of kids to our program with some returns from last year," Rose said. "Very athletic group of kids. Looking forward to seeing what this team can do this year.

"Great start to the season for all teams." 

OTHER TEAMS
• Owego Apalachin opened with a pair of wins. The "A" team nipped Schuyler County, 7-6, while the "B" squad dropped a 12-6 heartbreaker. In "C" action, the Indians rolled to a 44-14 victory.

• Tioga won two of three. The "A" team shut out Montrose, 25-0, and the "C" team rolled to a 45-18 win.  The "B" squad dropped as tough one, 14-6.

• Newark Valley had a rough season opener, going 0-3 against a solid Susquehanna Valley program. The Sabers won, 32-12, 27-6 and 26-0 in "A," "B" and "C," respectively.
