YOUTH BASEBALL: OWEGO (GREGORY) WINS BIG AT OWEGO LITTLE LEAGUE 10U TOURNAMENT (15 PHOTOS) (2018-07-09)

OWEGO — A seven-run second inning gave Owego (Gregory) the momentum it would need to pull away from Vestal (Gorey) for a 17-7 victory in four innings at the Owego Little League 10U Tournament Tuesday evening. 

With the win, Owego advanced to the C2 Division winner's bracket final.

Clinging to a 5-4 edge, the Owego bats erupted for seven singles in the bottom of the second inning.

Owego added a run in the third and four more in the fourth to the game early. A walk and a double in the third, and two base hits, three errors and a hit batter in the fourth fueled the five-run finish.

Owego grabbed the lead early, erupting for five runs in the first on a double, three singles, two errors and a walk.

Meanwhile, Nolan Card, Elijah Wheeler and Becket Tirinato combined to handcuff Vestal on two hits, although they did issue 14 free passes, including 11 walks.

Vestal scored four runs in the second and three in the third.

Hayden Blenco recorded three hits, three runs and two RBI; Dylan Gregory had three hits and two runs; Sam Buchsbaum smacked a double, and had two runs and four RBI; and Elijah Wheeler contributed a hit and five RBI.

Rocco Canfield had two hits, one a double, and scored twice; Camden Thole added a hit and three runs; and Ryan Diedrich had a hit, three runs and an RBI. 

Benjamin Mikels chipped in with a hit, run and RBI; Brenden Whigham had a hit and RBI; Jeremiah Wheeler scored a run; and Tirinato drove in a run.

Owego takes on the winner of Ithaca (Hall) and U-E (Ciotoli) Saturday at 1 p.m.
