OWEGO — U-E (Schrader) rallied late and nipped Owego (Gregory), 10-9, with a walk-off single in Owego Little League 10U Tournament pool play action Friday evening.
Trailing, 9-4, U-E would scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, gaining momentum from back-to-back errors, which were followed by six walks and a ground ball up the middle, the latter plating the winning run.
Clinging to a 2-1 edge, Owego bunched together five runs in the third. Beckett Tirinato was hit by a pitch, Hayden Blenco walked and Camden Thole hit a two-run single. One out later, Cayden Smith drilled an inside-the-park home run to push the Owego advantage to 6-1. Dylan Gregory followed with a single, then Ryan Diedrich smacked a triple to left field.
Owego scored twice in the first and two more times in the sixth.
Blenco and Thole walked to start the game. Blenco scored on Sam Buchsbaum's ground out and Thole tallied on a Smith ground out.
In the sixth, Diedrich hit a line-drive triple to center and Brenden Whigham belted an inside-the-park homer.
Smith, Gregory and Diedrich each went 2-for-3. Thole, Whigham and Rocco Canfield contributed one hit apiece.
Owego plays U-E (Ciotoli) at 9 a.m.
Bracket play begins Sunday afternoon and runs through July 14.
