OWEGO — Owego (Beyer) didn't need any big innings in Wednesday's 6-3 victory over Chenango Forks (Harkness). Instead, they just chipped away to improve to 2-0 in Pool C of the Owego Little League 12U Tournament.
Owego scored single runs in each of the first four innings, then tacked on two more in the bottom of the fifth.
Adam Llewellyn put the first run on the board, singling and scoring on a passed ball. Jack Buchsbaum made it 2-0 in the second. He singled and added a stolen base.
Forks would rally to knot the score at two in the third on a walk, RBI double and two more walks.
Chris Ward put his team up for good in the Owego half of the inning, walking, advancing to third on a pair of passed balls, and scoring on Llewellyn's base hit.
Parker Jenkins made it 4-2 in the fourth after leading off with a single.
Owego extended its advantage to 6-2 in the fifth. Noah Christ singled with one away and Llewellyn followed with a double, then Sam Sherwood delivered a two-out double.
CF picked up its final run in the sixth on a triple and RBI single.
Llewellyn paced Owego's nine-hit effort with a 3-for-3 performance. Sherwood went 1-for-1, Jenkins, Buchsbaum, Zach Hammond and Devin Card were 1-for-2, and Christ was 1-for-3.
Owego takes on Nichols-Tioga (Luther) Friday at 5:30 p.m.
