SECTION IV TRACK & FIELD: STEEPLECHASE DUO'S 1-2 FINISH HIGHLIGHTS NV'S EFFORT AT CLASS C MEET (2019-05-22)

ONEONTA — Marissa Silba and Sophie Stewart finished 1-2 in the steeplechase to highlight Newark Valley’s effort at the Section IV Class C Track & Field Championships here Wednesday.

The Cardinals placed third in both the girls and boys meets, which was dominated by IAC athletes. Lansing won the girls title with 110 points to Trumansburg’s 101, followed by NV with 83. T-burg came out on top in the boy event, edging Dryden 109-106. NV scored 62.

Silba ran the obstacle-dotted steeplechase course in 7:29.87 while Stewart finished in 7:56.01.

Silba was the runner-up in the 3,000 with a time of 10:51.39.

Madison Sherwood placed second in the 200 in 27.5 seconds and third in the pole vault, clearing nine feet.

Leah Williams took third in the triple jump with a leap of 34-8 and fifth in the long jump at 14-10 1/2.

Emma Miller ran the 1500 in 5:08.88, good for third place.

Maris Aylesworth placed fourth in the long jump at 14-11 1/4 and was fifth in the 400, clocking 1:04.78.

Kylee Carrier added a fourth-place heave of 28-9 1/4 in the shot put.

Kayla Malarkey finished sixth in the high jump at 4-4.

The Cardinals were the runners-up in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:16.10, third in the 4x800 relay  at 10:37.15 and fourth in the 4x100 relay 52.55 seconds (names were not available).

In the boys meet, Jonny Sherwood was second in the steeplechase in 10:25.56 and third in the 3200 in 10:34.61.8.

Caden Bennett took second in the 100 with a time of 11.43 seconds and fourth in the 200 in 23.88 seconds.

Micah Williams finished third in the triple jump at 40-5.

Lucas Frank took third in the shot put with a throw of 42-6 3/4.

Derrick Kalpokas placed fifth in the pole vault at 11 feet even.

John Simmons took sixth in the high jump, clearing 5-6.

Kyle Pratt took sixth in the shot put at 39-.1
 
The 4x100 relay was second with a time of 45.46 seconds. The 4x400 relay and 4x800 relay placed third with times of 3:38.28 and 9:20.75, respectively (names were not available).

The top three finishers in each event plus provisional qualifiers move to the Section IV State Qualifier at U-E Wednesday and Thursday.
