SECTION IV GIRLS GOLF: 4 S-VE PLAYERS COMPETE IN STATE QUALIFIER (2019-05-21)

HORSEHEADS — There weren’t many surprises at the Section IV Girls Golf Championships Tuesday. Waverly won its fourth consecutive team championship and Unadilla Valley standout Bailey Shoemaker claimed the medalist honor.

While the sun was out the majority of the day, golfers had to battle windy conditions at Soaring Eagles Golf Course.

S-VE showed up with for players, three of whom were grouped together. The Panthers’ Ezraela Belanger would pair up with Lansing’s Olivia Larounis. Belanger finished with a 158, Larounis carded a 159.

The rest of the Spencer quartet were separated by six strokes. Sydney Myrick posted a 160, Theresa Maki shot 165 and Annika Walle added a 166, giving the Panthers a 649 team score.

Waverly finished with a 384 and claimed three of the top six individual spots. Alex Tomasso paced the Wolverines on the par-71 layout, registering an 85, which was good for third place individually.

Sidney Tomasso and Gabby Picco both shot 93 for the Wolverines, with Sidney Tomasso placing fifth and Picco sixth.

Haley Kittle rounded out the team scoring with a 113.

Gretchen Sowle and Lauren Newman had non-scoring round of 115 and 129, respectively.

Chenango Forks’ Emily Gresham, who plays in the fall with the boys team, recorded an 80 to place second. Lucia Chen of Corning was fourth with an 88, Horseheads’ Emily Legare was seventh at 103, Brenna Gleim of Hancock took eighth with a 104, and Corning’s Hannah Masaki and Windham-Ashland-Jewett’s Liliana Pranzo were ninth at 105. Those players qualified for the state team

Brooklyn Moffe and Ava Fairbrother of Horseheads scored 108 and 110, respectively, to earn alternate spots for states.

Horseheads was second in the team scoring with a 434, and Corning was third with 444.
