STAC SOFTBALL: OWEGO DROPS SENIOR GAME HEARTBREAKER (2019-05-01)
Tioga County Sports ReportOWEGO — Trailing by a run, Owego loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning, only to suffer a 4-3 senior game loss to Vestal when a base-runner left early on a potential game-tying sacrifice fly.
Chelsea Sellars led off the Indians’ half of the inning with a single and Anna Felice added a one-way single. An error on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Emma Howe field the bags, but Sellars’ courtesy runner was ruled to have left third base early on Emma Stevenson’s fly ball to right field.
Owego took a 1-0 lead into the fourth inning, after Grace Thomas doubled and Miki Worzel singled in the first inning.
The Golden Bears tied the game on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth and took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on a walk and RBI double.
Owego came back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame when Taylor Aubel and Felice scored. Aubel was hit by a pitch, Sellars had a sacrifice, Felice reached on an error, and Stevenson had an RBI single.
Vestal parlayed a pair of singles, a double and a bunt into a 4-3 lead in the sixth.
Thomas went 1-for-3 with a double, Sellars was 1-for-2, Felice was 1-for-3, and Howe and Stevenson were 1-for-4.
Owego hosts Corning Friday at 5 p.m.
