WATKINS GLEN — Cassidy Hoffmier scored four runs, Marissa Berghorn scored three, and seven other Newark Valley players found their way across home plate as the Cardinals cruised to a 16-0, six-inning IAC Division 3 win over Watkins Glen here Monday.

Lead-off hitter Allie Wandell started the game off with a walk and would score the only run NV would need. Runs by Berghorn and Hoffmier made it 3-0 after one.

Hoffmier and Emma Graves scored in the third, Berghorn and Hoffmier tallied in the fourth, and April Simmons and Berghorn runs in the fifth pushed the NV advantage to 9-0.

The Cardinals put the game away with a seven-run sixth as 12 batters came to the plate. Sarah Mertson, Allison Walker, Ari Westbrook, Jordan Stiffarm, Wandell, Simmons and Hoffmier accounted for the scoring.

Hoffmier was 4-for-4 at the plate and Graves went 4-for-5. Walker was 3-for-5. Mertson went 2-for-3, Berghorn and Simmons both went 2-for-4, Westbrook was 2-for-5, and Wandell and Stiffarm added one hit apiece.

Westbrook tossed a three-hitter for the Cardinals, striking out five without surrendering a walk.

NV hosts Dryden at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.
