MEN'S COLLEGE SWIMMING: OWEGO GRAD PHELPS PICKS UP 5 WINS AT SUNYAC SWIM CHAMPIONSHIPS (2019-02-26)

GENESEO, N.Y. - Owego grad Mitchell Phelps won five events as the SUNY Geneseo men's swimming & diving team won its sixth consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference championship Saturday at Erie Community College in Buffalo.

The Knights finished first in 16 of 20 events, posted an NCAA B-Cut time, and set one meet record and one conference record.

Phelps placed first in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly, posting times of 50.0 seconds and 1:52.35, respectively. His 200 fly time was a school record.

He also swam legs on three winning relays. Phelps joined Matt Modelewski, Harry Harkins and Sean McClellan to win the 800 free relay with a meet record time of 6:51.17; teamed with Kaz Sampson, John Wilson and Harkins to win the 200 medley relay in 1:32.31; and grouped with Will Eng, Sampson and Wilson to win the 400 medley relay in 3:25.86.

Phelps was also second in the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:53.8.

At the Bomber Invitational at Ithaca College Feb. 9, Phelps won the 200 IM (1:58.67).

During the Geneseo Invitational Feb. 2, he won the 100 backstroke (54.06) and took second in the 100 free (48.41).

Phelps led off the second-place 200 medley relay team (1:36.32), which included Sampson, Wilson and Harkins; and anchored the third-place 200 free relay (1:28.26) that included Eng, Sampson and Wilson.
