COLLEGE WOMEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING: OWEGO GRAD KATCHUK WINS BOSTON WINTER OPEN (March 4, 2026)

Tioga County Sports Report
BOSTON — Former Owego standout Kaelyn Katchuk, a freshman at Boston University, captured first place at the Boston Winter Open in the 1-meter diving event on Feb. 6.

The annual swimming and diving event, held at Boston University’s FitRec Competition Pool, featured 12 divers from Harvard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Tufts University and Boston University.

Katchuk’s winning score of 273.95 also qualified her for the NCAA Division 1 Zone A Championships at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryand. The Zone A meet will be held March 9-11 at Navy.

Previously she had also qualified for the NCAA event on the 3-meter board on Jan. 17 in a dual meet against MIT.

“I only entered the 1-meter for the Winter Open to focus on qualifying for the NCAA Zone meet in that event,” she said. “I missed it last week at the Bryant University meet by 1.15 points, so I was determined! The scoring standard in our conference is very strict, so I needed to be sharp.”

Katchuk placed 8th in the 1-meter event at the Patriot League championships Feb. 19. She posted a score of 233.4 in the preliminaries, then recorded 249.15 points in the finals. She took 26th in the 3-meter prelims with a score of 217.1 on Feb. 21.

Outside the pool, Katchuk began her college career with a solid star, achieving a perfect grade point average in her first semester.
