SECTION IV INDOOR TRACK & FIELD: OWEGO SENDING TWO RELAYS, ONE INDIVIDUAL WINNER TO STATES (February 21, 2026)

ITHACA — Owego’s boys and girls 4x800-meter relays, and the River Hawks’ Gavin Heath captured first-place honors at the Section IV Division II Indoor Track & Field State Qualifier held at Ithaca College’s Glazer Arena Friday.
Gavin Heath’s time of 1:24.02 in the 600-meter run lowered his own school record and he qualified for states by winning Division II. He was also the overall champion in the event, crossing the finish line 1.28 seconds ahead of the runner-up.
He also anchored the 4x800 relay, teaming with Magavin Allen, Javan Belokur and Ryker Chrysler to win Division II with a time of 8:37.12. The quartet placed third overall behind Division I track & field powerhouses Corning and Ithaca.
The girls 4x800 relay of Stella Palladino, Sarah Heath, Abigail McHugh and Jaelyn Chrysler also won Division II, posting a time of 10:35.88, shattering the previous school record of 10:42.3 set in 2016. The foursome was also third overall behind Ithaca and Corning.
A couple of personal records were also registered by Sarah Heath and Abigail McHugh.
Heath posted a time of 5:08.76 to take sixth place in the 600 while McHugh was sixth in the 1500, clocking 5:08.76.
Jaelyn Chrysler added a top 10 showing in the 1500 in 5:15.47.
The state championships will be held March 8 on Staten Island.
