GIRLS YOUTH BASKETBALL: NEWARK VALLEY 3/4 TEAM ENJOYS SUCCESSFUL SEASON (February 17, 2026)

NEWARK VALLEY — The Newark Valley girls 3/4 grade basketball team enjoyed a successful season, winning its division and placing third in the end-of-season tournament.
NV competed in the Southern Tier Rage Community Basketball League based out of Endicott. All the league teams in their age division were from STAC schools.
The Cardinals won the regular season division and competed in the Final 4 playoff tournament.
NV lost to Binghamton in Round 1 in a close game, 20-16. The Cardinals played Maine-Endwell in the third-place game. NV trailed, 22-13, with five minutes remaining, but rallied back to win, 24-22 on a last-second basket.
The Cardinals finished with an overall record of 16-4-1, averaging 18 points per game while only allowing their opponents nine points per game.
Players included 4th-graders Serenity Klossner, Claire Powers, Ellie Ferris, Maddy Payne, Lennox Miller and Hunter Ackley; 3rd-graders Clara Tomazin, Finnley Mele, Emma Beach and Harper Lavore; and 2nd-grader Charlotte Whitney.
The team was coached by Sam Whitney, Lindsey Tomazin and Ashley Lavore.
