SECTION IV WRESTLING: SVEC’S VAOW, ZUFALL PLACE 6th AT STATE QUALIFIER (February 14, 2026)

BINGHAMTON — Spencer-Van Etten / Candor’s Rodney Vaow and Cooper Zufall claimed sixth-place honors at the Section IV Division II Wrestling Championships at Visions Veterans Memorial Arena here Saturday.

Vaow (132 pounds) took on Dryden’s Oscar Brotherton in his first bout and came away with a 21-5 tech. fall in 5:09. In his next match he lost to eventual runner-up Kade Mustin of Oxford/Greene by fall in 1:53.

In the wrestlebacks, Vaow dropped a 14-2 major decision to Whitney Point’s Kyle Kitson. His final match was a medical forfeit to Brotherton.

Zufall (175) started the tournament with a 17-5 tech. fall against Owego’s Jaydin Brainard, then bested Windsor’s Caleb Kohlback, 6-4. He faced Edison’s Greg Golden, the eventual champion, in the semifinals and lost by fall in 1:14

In the wrestlebacks, Zufall lost to Newark Valley’s Elijah Williams by an 18-0 tech. fall in 3:45. He met Kohlback again in the third-place match, but lost, 5-0.

Also competing for the Eagles were Kamren Westbrook (138), Kaden Sims (190), Connor Breed (215) and Jak Smith (285). Westbrook was 1-2 with a pin and Sims went 1-2.

SVEC finished 19th in the 24-team tourney with 28.5 points. Tioga won the team title with 187.
