STAC BOYS BASKETBALL: OWEGO FALLS TO WAVERLY IN SEASON FINALE (February 11, 2026)
Tioga County Sports ReportWAVERLY — Waverly took a big lead early, and cruised to an 89-29 win over Owego in the River Hawks' season finale here Wednesday night in STAC boys basketball action.
The Wolverines led 18-6 after the first quarter, then used a 28-10 blitz to up its advantage to 46-16 at the half.
Waverly outscored Owego 19-9 in the third quarter, and closed the game with a 24-4 run in the final eight minutes.
Duke Snyder led Owego with eight points, while Calvin Smith scored six points, and Carter Reig and Nolan Card each added six points.
The Wolverines honored longtime Owego coach Chris Evans, who is stepping down after 18 years at the helm of the River Hawks.
"I have a lot of respect for what he's done with that program. He's done things the right way," said Waverly coach Lou Judson.
"I've always thought he's held true to his values and coached the game of basketball the way it's supposed to be coached," he noted "For many, many years he's done an outstanding job at the collegiate level, and at the high school level.
"We've battled for many, many years, and he's gotten me more than I've beaten him.
"Tonight was his last game," added Judson. "It's going to be hard not seeing him on the sidelines next year, but I'm kind of glad because his kids are always prepared, and he's tough to beat."
Owego wraps up the season with a 5-13 record.
