IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: S-VE RALLY FALLS SHORT IN LOSS TO NEWFIELD (February 11, 2026)

SPENCER — Spencer-Van Etten attempted to rally in the second half, but came up short in a 38-35 loss to Newfield in IAC South Small School girls basketball action here Tuesday.

With the Panthers trailing, 24-16, Trinity Dashler sank a pair of free throws while Kendall Gentile, Lauren Gillette, Kaylee Kastenhuber and Kaidince Root added one basket apiece in the third quarter to cut the gap to 32-26.

Root would tack on four points in the final frame with Dashler and Kastenhuber scoring two points each, and Gillette adding a free throw, but it wouldn't be enough to catch the Trojans.

Newfield grabbed a 13-8 lead in the first period as Sierra Lynch and Keziah McCoy knocked down one 3-pointer apiece while Dashler put up four ups.

Lynch added another trey in the second quarter, and Egypt Smith-Henderson and Emily Taylor scored four points apiece as the Trojans stretched their advantage to 24-16 at the break. Dashler accounted forfour of the Panthers’ eight points.

Dashler led all scorers with 12 points. Root contributed seven, Gillette and Katenhuber chipped in with six apiece, and Maddy Ellison and Gentile added two points each.

Taylor led Newfield with 11 points and Smith-Henderson added 10.

The Trojans (8-10) clinched a playoff spot with the win. S-VE finishes the season at 5-14.
