NEWARK VALLEY — Watkins Glen scored early and often to run away from Newark Valley, 77-41, in IAC South Large School boys basketball action here Tuesday.
With 10 points from Chris Simiele, seven from Jude Santos and six from Bryce Bockelkamp, the Lake Hawks built a 23-4 first-quarter cushion.
NV kept the second quarter closer, getting outscored 16-13.
Cooper Davis put up seven points for the Cardinals, including a 3-pointer.
Watkins Glen doubled up NV, 58-29, in the third quarter behind balanced scoring from Jayce Scholtisek, Bockelkamp and Simiele, who combined for 13 of the team’s 19 points. Tristan Veruto and Tim Wojtysiak had five points each for NV.
Dominic Lewis scored 15 of the Lake Hawks 19 points in the final frame, knocking down four of his five 3-pointers in the process.
Lewis led the team with 18 points as it won for the 11th time in 13 games following an 0-4 start to the season. Simiele tacked on 14 points and Bockelkamp pitched in with a dozen more.
Wojtysiak led the Cardinals with 18 points, Davis added nine and Veruto had seven. Nate Hinckley scored three points, and Austin Green and Wyatt Welch had two apiece.
NV heads to Elmira Notre Dame on Thursday.
