SECTION IV WRESTLING: CREELEY, CALLAHAN LEAD NEWARK VALLEY TO RUNNER-UP FINISH AT QUALIFIER B (February 7, 2026)

NEWARK VALLEY — Cadin Creeley and Titus Callahan captured weight class titles to lead Newark Valley to a second place finish at the Section IV Division II Qualifier B tournament here Saturday.

The senior duo, state qualifiers in 2024, showed their stuff as they began their quest for a return trip to Albany.

Creeley pinned Marco Possemoto of Walton/Delaware Academy in 1:12 and Tioga’s Aiden Black in 1:31 to take the top spot at 165 pounds.

Callahan decked WDA’s Jack Macneill in 20 seconds, then added a second fall in 1:29 over Tioga’s James Howey. In the 190-pound championship bout, he scored a 7-0 decision against top-seeded Brennen Riquier of Chenango Valley.

The Cardinals’ Logan Woodin placed second at 157. He pinned Marathon’s Gabriel Crumb in 3:05 to start the day, then posted an 11-3 major decision over Oneonta’s Isaac Gray. He gave up a medical forfeit to the Yellowjackets’ Alan Little in the championship round.

Logan Rhodes (138) and Wyatt Dillow (215) came away with the bronze.

Rhodes blanked Grayson Cortright of Chenango Valley, 7-0, then fell to four-time state place-winner Jayden Duncanson of Tioga by tech. fall, 17-2, in 4:18. He received a forfeit from Spencer-Van Etten/Candor’s Kam Westbrook in the consolation finals.

Dillow scored a 16-0 tech. fall in 2:40 over Moravia’s Carter Wiley, but dropped his next match to Marathon’s Brian Deforest, 9-3, in his next bout. He pinned SVEC’s Connor Breed in 2:54 in the consolation finals.

Andrew Lelik (110) and Travis Middendorf (150) placed fourth.

Lelik started with an 11-0 major decision over CV’s Alexander Valls, then lost by fall in 33 seconds to returning state champion Declan McKee of Tioga. He lost a 17-3 major decision to WDA’s Linkin Backus in the third-place bout.

Middendorf, who didn’t wrestle last season, started the day off with a 10-3 victory over Moravia’s Lewis McDonald, but was a pin victim of returning state place-winner Owen Clark from Lansing in 59 seconds. He dropped the third-place match to Whitney Point’s Elijah Baker by a 9-0 major decision.

Sheldon Houston (103), Kenny Slater (118), Elijah Williams (175) and Jack Blomberg (285) took sixth place. Due to the rules of the tournament, they were not allowed to compete for fifth place.

Houston lost by fall to CV’s Andrew Valls in 3:32, then decisioned Whitney Point, 5-3. He shared sixth with Marathon’s Henry Donah.

Slater pinned Lansing’s Junior Estep in 1:18, then lost by a 19-3 tech. fall in 2:38 to WDA’s Aiden Branigan and pinned CV’s Lewis Wolcott in 2:37. He shared sixth with Joseph Card of Whitney Point.

Williams lost by fall to Oneonta’s Lucas Weaver in 1:57, then came back to pin Lansing’s Hudson Reichard in 1:51. He shared sixth with Parker Deblew of Sidney.

Blomberg dropped an 8-3 decision to WDA’s Urijah Dibble, but won by fall over Whitney Point’s Nathan Strauss in 1:18. He shared sixth with SVEC’s Jak Smith.

Jacob Shipman (126) was 1-2 with a fall over Whitney Point’s Colton Miller in 42 seconds.

Leland Houston (138) went 1-2 with a pin of Oxford/Greene’s Dawson Parks in 3:28.

Marcos Escalante (144) went 1-2 also. He recorded an 18-3 tech. fall over CV’s Jestin Bennett in four minutes.

Logan Davis went 0-2 at 132.
