IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: CANDOR EXTENDS WIN STREAK TO 7 WITH WIN OVER GROTON (February 6, 2026)

GROTON — The Candor boys basketball team stretched its winning streak to seven games, defeating Groton, 64-46, in IAC Small School crossover action here Friday.
The Red Hawks kept it close early, trailing 18-17 at the end of the first quarter behind eight points from Kameron McClain and five more from Jerome Turner. McClain knocked down two 3-pointers and Turner tacked on another.
Candor countered with seven points apiece from Jakobe Foster and Donald Makie with each canning a trey in the process.
The Coyotes created a little space in the second quarter with a 16-6 run to make it 34-23 at the half. Balanced scoring set the stage as Makie scored four points with a trey,Mat Smith added a three-ball, BenSheridan put in three points, and Foster, Teagan Kwiatkowski and Kyron O’Dell added two points apiece.
McClain was held without a point and Turner managed just two.
Foster erupted for a dozen points in the third quarter as Candor scored 21 points to create a 55-36 cushion. Makie added six, Kwiatkowski had three, and the trio accounted for one 3-pointer each. Foster and Makie both went 3-for-3 at the free throw line.
Sheridan added a trey in the final frame.
Foster led the Coyotes with a double-double that included 22 points (2 threes)and 12 rebounds. He also had five steals, five assists and one blocked shot. Makie contributed 19 points (3 threes), three rebounds, two steals and an assist and was 6-for-7 at the stripe.
Kwiatkowski scored nine points to go with five rebounds, a block and a steal; and Sheridan had nine points, eight boards, three assists and two steals. Smith added a 3-pointer, an assist and a rebound; O’Dell had two points and four boards, Kyle Jantz chipped in with a block, steal and rebound; and Kellen Williamson pulled down three boards.
McClain and Turner paced the Red Hawks with 12 points apiece.
Candor closes out the regular season Tuesday at home against Odessa-Montour.
