IAC JV BOYS BASKETBALL: S-VE TURNS BACK CANDOR COMEBACK (February 5, 2026)

SPENCER — The Candor boys JV basketball team scored nearly half its points in the fourth quarter, but Spencer-Van Etten turned away the comeback attempt to post a 53-51 victory in IAC South Small School action here Tuesday.
Cam Losey scored six of his 12 points in the final frame for the Panthers while Tyler VanDerpoel, Gabe McCracken and Nate Ashcraft added one basket each.
Meanwhile, the Coyotes’ 23-12 surge was spearheaded by eight points from Elliott Johanns, including a 6-for-6 showing at the free throw line. Ethan Eiklor and Lucas Edwards knocked down one trey apiece in the period, and scored five and four points, respectively.Nate Morse added four points and Hunter Cody tacked on two more.
S-VE took the first quarter, 17-12, with VanDerpoel pumping out seven points for the Panthers and Morse countering with six.
The Panthers extended their advantage to 25-16 at halftime with two points each from VanDerpoel, Damien Vellake, Landon Whitmarsh and Losey. Candor got four points from Morse and two from Valdez Cole.
The second half continued in S-VE’s favor as the Panthers outscored Candor, 16-12, to build a 41-28 cushion. Vellake led the effort with five points, VanDerpoel and McCracken scored four apiece, and Ashcraft added three. Hunter Cody put in five for the Coyotes, Morse had four, Edwards chipped in with two and Eiklor had a free throw.
VanDerpoel paced the victory with 15 points and Losey added a dozen more. McCracken, Vellake and Ashcraft contributed nine, eight and seven points, respectively.
Morse led all scorers with 18 points, and Eiklor and Johanns tacked on eight apiece. Cody finished with seven, Edwards had six and Valdez Cole added four.
