HS JV BOYS BASKETBALL: S-VE SPLITS WITH HARPURSVILLE, MORAVIA (February 1, 2026)

SPENCER — The Spencer-Van Etten JV boys basketball team split a pair of games last week, defeating Harpursville, 67-58, in non-league action Wednesday, then dropping a 36-35 IAC Small School crossover to Moravia on Friday.

S-VE 67, HARPURSVILLE 58
The Panthers erupted for 20 first-quarter points to take a 20-7 lead, but the Hornets came storming back in the second period to take a 30-26 advantage into the half.

Taylor Vanderpoel put in nine points in the first, all via the 3-pointer, but no S-VE players scored more than two in Q2.

The third quarter brought out another S-VE scoring barrage, a 21-8 surge making it 47-38 heading into the final frame.

Gabe McCracken cranked out 11 points with one trey while Evan Combs and Damien Vellake tacked on one trey apiece, and Cam Losey added four points.

Each team put up 20 points in the final stanza with Losey scoring six points and McCracken adding another trey.

McCracken led the way with 19 points, including two threes, while Vanderpoel added 15 points, highlighted by three threes and 4-for-6 free throw shooting. Losey had 15 points, Vellake scored 11, Nathan Ashcraft had four and Combs tacked on a 3-pointer.

Kehoe and Nolan Shofkorn had 15 points each for Harpursville, Atkinson scored 14 and Mills added 10.

MORAVIA 36, S-VE 35
The Blue Devils went on a 14-2 run in the first quarter, S-VE got a point back in the second period, but Moravia took it back in the third to maintain its 12-point margin, 34-32.

McCracken nailed a pair of 3-pointers in the final stanza while Vellake and Ashcraft added four and three points, respectively.

Ashcraft and Losey led S-VE with 12 points apiece, McCracken chipped in with 10, Vellake added six and Vanderpoel tacked on a free throw.

Jake Renahan paced Moravia with 14 points.
