STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO PULLS AWAY LATE, AVENGES LOSS TO CV (January 30, 2026)

OWEGO — The Owego girls basketball team snapped a four-game losing streak and avenged a previous loss as it pulled away in the fourth quarter to knock off Chenango Valley, 47-38, in STAC Central Division action here Friday evening.
The River Hawks trailed, 29-26, heading into the final eight minutes, but picked up eight points apiece from their top two scorers to pull away. Jenna McEvoy drained a 3-pointer, her fourth of the game, and went 5-for-8 at the free throw line while Marielle Searles added two baskets and was 4-for-5 at the line.
Searles scored six points in the opening period and McEvoy nailed her first trey as Owego took a 14-13 edge.
Following a 6-6 second period, the Warriors worked their way in front in the third quarter behind four points from Abbey Rosengrant and four more by Tiffany Schaefer.
McEvoy and Rosengrant shared scoring honors with 19 points apiece.
Searles contributed 17 more for the River Hawks, Ashlyn Dalton recorded five points, and Katelyn Dodge, Jana Nikulich and Keely Wicklund tacked on two points each.
The win avenged a 48-27 loss to CV on Jan. 13.
Owego hosts Homer in a non-league game Saturday at 1 p.m.
