IAC WRESTLING: WESTBROOK, SMITH, BREED PACE SVEC'S EFFORTS AT LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIPS (13 PHOTOS) (January 24, 2026)
Tioga County Sports ReportWATKINS GLEN — Senior Kamren Westbrook placed second and juniors Jak Smith and Connor Breed each finished third to lead SVEC's effort here Saturday at the IAC wrestling championships.
Freshman Gabe Benjamin and Korbin Brenza junior each notched a pair of wins and finished sixth in their respective weight classes, while sophomore Dante Davis, and juniors Cooper Zufall and Kaden Sims each won one match in sixth-place finishes.
Tioga, which had 15 wrestlers reach the podium — including five champs and five runners-up, ran away with the team title with 319.5 points, while Newark Valley was second with 250.5 points, and Schuyler was third with 181 points. SVEC finished eighth in the 12-team field with 94.5 points.
Westbrook was 2-1 to place second in the 138-pound bracket.
Westbrook scored a pin of Schuyler's Dylan Senecal in 2:58 in the quarterfinals, then forged a 12-4 major decision over Newark Valley's Logan Rhodes in the semifinals.
In the finals, Westbrook dropped an 18-3 technical in 3:08 to four-time state place-winner and five-time IAC champ Jayden Duncanson of Tioga.
Smith was 3-1 to finish third in the 285-pound weight class.
Smith opened with a 63-second pin of Schuyler's Declan Barry in the quarterfinals, then lost via first-period fall to top-seeded Mark McCane of Tioga.
In the consolation semifinals, Smith decked Marathon's Carson Fox in 51 seconds.
In the third-place match, Smith pinned Dryden's Lucas VanSlyke in 1:49.
Breed was 3-1 to place third in the 215-pound bracket.
Breed took third the hard way, dropping his quarter-final match-up to Marathon's Trent Vinson via first-period fall, then winning three straight.
Breed bounced back with a 60-second pin of Moravia's Colin Mooneyham, then pinned Tioga's Jamie Woodcock in 2:37 in the consolation semifinals.
In the third-place match, Breed won via disqualification over Vinson.
Benjamin was 2-3 to finish sixth in the 150-pound bracket.
After losing in the quarterfinals, Benjamin scored a 24-4 technical fall of Lansing's Brennan Williams, then won via 19-2 technical fall over Trumansburg's Caden Bonefede.
Benjamin lost via third-period fall to Schuyler's Hunter Barrett in the consolation semifinals, then lost via fall to Newark Valley's Trevor Middendorf, who beat him 12-9 in the quarterfinals, in the fifth-place match.
Brenza was 2-3 to place sixth in the 157-pound weight class.
After dropping a wild 16-11 decision to Trumansburg's Caden Doolittle in the opening round, Brenza pinned Dryden's Kolton Nash in 3:58, then edged Schuyler's Emmitt Presutti, 11-9.
Brenza lost via technical fall to Schuyler's Jotham Lynch in the consolation semifinals, then dropped a 12-0 major decision to Doolittle in the fifth-place match.
Zufall was 1-2 to finish fifth in the 175-pound bracket, his lone win a 15-0 technical fall of Tioga's Carson LaBour in the quarterfinals.
After falling to Lansing's Anthony Endres in the semifinals, Zufall issued medical forfeits in the consolation semifinals and the fifth-place match.
Sims was 1-3 to finish sixth in the 190-pound bracket, his lone win a pin of Moravia's Carter Wiley in 3:47 in the blood round.
Davis was 1-3 to finish sixth in the 132-pound bracket. His lone win was via injury default over teammate Rodney Vaow in the quarterfinals.
Senior Rodney Vaow was 0-2 with a pair of injury defaults at 132 pounds, and freshman Andrew Kinnetz was 0-2 at 126 pounds.
