IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: S-VE STARTS SLOW, FALLS TO GROTON, 44-32 (January 23, 2026)

GROTON — The Spencer-Van Etten girls basketball team got off to a slow start and was unable to catch up in a 44-32 IAC Small School crossover loss to Groton here Friday.

The Red Hawks cranked out 18 points in the first quarter to take an 18-7 lead, then extended their advantage to 30-12 at intermission.

S-VE cut the gap to 34-22 heading into the fourth quarter, but couldn’t get any closer.

Trinity Dashler led the Panthers with nine points, all coming from beyond the arc. She also grabbed three rebounds.

Lauren Gillette chipped in with eight points and five boards; Kaidince Root added five points, four boards, two assists and one steal; and Kaylee Kastenhuber had one 3-pointer, two assists, a rebound and an assist.

Amani Diboun recorded two points and two rebounds; Maddy Ellison had two points and one rebound; Kelsea Swayze added two points and Kendall Gentile tacked on one point, three assists and two rebounds.

S-VE heads to Odessa-Montour on Wednesday.
