IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: S-VE PULLS AWAY WITH STRONG SECOND HALF; TOPS SOUTHERN CAYUGA, 30-17 (January 19, 2026)

SPENCER — Spencer-VanEtten played a strong second half to pull away from Southern Cayuga in a defensive  struggle here Monday night in IAC Small School Division crossover girls basketball action.

The Panthers led 6-3 after the first quarter, and 11-8 at the half.

Kaidince Root scored five points in the first half for S-VE.'

S-VE limited Southern Cayuga to just one field goal in the third quarter, using a 6-2 spurt to take a 17-10 lead into the final eight minutes.

Lauren Gillette knocks down a 3-pointer and scored six points in the fourth quarter, and Kaylee Kastenhuber made 3 of 4 free throws down the stretch as S-VE iced the decision with a game-closing 13-7 run.

Gillette led S-VE with 10 points and four rebounds, while Root scored five points, and Trinity Dashler had four points and seven rebounds.

Amani Diboun had four points and three boards in the win, while Kendall Gentile added four assists and two steals, Kastenhuber hauled down seven rebounds, and Maddie Gentile notched three steals.

S-VE returns to action Wednesday when it hosts Candor in a 6 p.m. varsity start.
