HS CROSS COUNTRY: OWEGO’S McHUGH ENDS SCHOLASTIC CAREER AT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS (January 16, 2026)

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Owego senior Abigail McHugh ended her high school cross country career competing at the World Athletics Cross Country Championships held at Apalachee Regional Park here Jan. 10.

Competing in the High School 4K division, McHugh placed fourth with a time of 16:47.

The race consisted of two 2K laps on a course that included a man-made hill, beach sand section, water crossing, mud pit and a section of log obstacles carved to look like alligators.

Racing conditions were different from those she experienced during the late season in upstate New York with Tallahassee temperatures hovering near 80 degrees.

In addition to the racing, McHugh had an opportunity to meet several top college and professional running athletes who have inspired her over the past several years.
