IAC JV GIRLS BASKETBALL: S-VE SPLITS TWO HOME GAMES TO START 2026 (January 15, 2026)

SPENCER — The Spencer-Van Etten JV girls basketball team split a pair of games to begin the new year.

The Panthers fell short against Union Springs, 39-31, on Friday, but rebounded to defeat Odessa-Montour, 28-15, on Tuesday.

S-VE 28, O-M 15
Leah Neish’s 3-pointer was the difference in an 8-5 first-quarter advantage for the Panthers, who created some space in the second period behind another Neish trey and seven points from Rylee Silvernail, who also canned a three-ball.

Leading 20-9 at the break, S-VE controlled a low-scoring second half.

Silvernail finished the game with 13 points, five rebounds and four steals, and Neish added six points and a pair of steals. Maddy Gentile grabbed 11 steals to go with five points, six boards and five assists.

Cloey Adams recorded four points, four boards, two steals, two blocks and one assist; Dev Lau added four rebounds, two steals and a block; Lilly Horyczun had four boards and an assist; and Thea Kastenhuber tacked on one steal.

US 39, S-VE 31
The Panthers trailed, 13-6, after one quarter, but rallied to knot the score at 17 at the half.

Unfortunately for S-VE, the Wolves went on a 12-4 run in the third period and the Panthers were unable to make up any ground in the final stanza.

Silvernail paced S-VE with eight points, including two 3-pointers, three rebounds, an assists and a steal; Gentile chipped in with six points (1 trey), eight boards, two steals and a block; and Mackenzie Rose added six points and a rebound.

Adams registered one 3-pointer, one rebound and one steal; Lau had three points and a rebound; Neish added two points, two rebounds and a steal; and Kastenhuber had one steal.
