THE SPORTS REPORTS: CORNING DUO SHARE ZIFF LAW FIRM BOYS 'RUNNER OF YEAR' HONORS; OWEGO'S BELOKUR EARNS ALL-REGION KUDOS (January 14, 2026)
The Sports ReportsIt was an exciting year for runners on both
sides of the border as Corning and Towanda continued their team
success, with plenty of individuals collecting hardware.
Corning’s duo of
Nicholas Ferratella and
Bryce Hammond went back-and-forth leading the Hawks during the season, eventually culminating with them capturing another sectional title.
Ferratella was second at sectionals, with Hammond fourth, while at states it was Hammond earning the state medal.

Male Co-Runners of the Year."
Towanda freshman
Emmett Klees posted a strong season, helped the Knights claim an NTL title, while also earning a state berth, making him the All-Region "
Newcomer of the Year."
Corning’s
Ray Lawson
keeps churning out championship teams, and he did so again in 2025
despite the roster turnover from the year before, earning him the "
Coach of the Year" honors.
The
All-Region first team
consists of Corning’s Ferratella, Hammond, and Sebastion Boutwell,
Horseheads’ Nicholas Kowal, Owego’s Javan Belokur, Canton’s Lawrence
Halbfoerster, North Penn-Mansfield's James Knefley, and Wellsboro’s
Henry Whitney.
On the
second team are Towanda’s Klees, and
Boom Thompson, Corning’s Christopher Lawson, and Ashtyn Stark,
Wellsboro’s Max Macias, and Horseheads’ Max Williams, Allen Wetmore, and
Gavin Hornsby.
The
third team consists of Northeast
Bradford's Jackson Martin, Canton’s Landon Lake, Notre Dame’s Gavin
Meier, Corning’s Elijah Sonner, Athens' Jacob Shores, Towanda’s Hagen
Jones, Wyalusing’s Aidan Neiley, and Troy’s RJ Bellinger.
The
All-Region newcomer
team consists of Klees, Sonner, Towanda’s Phillip Spinney, and the NEB
foursome of Levi Dewing, Keagan Netherton, Xavier Lockwood, and Josiah
Russell.
