HS WRESTLING: NEWARK VALLEY PLACES FOUR AMONG TOP 3 AT RIVER HAWK ROUND ROBIN (January 10, 2026)

OWEGO — Despite the lack of some of its top wrestlers, Newark Valley came away with a runner-up and two third-place finishers at the River Hawk Round Robin here Saturday.
Andrew Lelik took second at 110 pounds while Avery Davis, Jacob Shipman and Leland Houston were third at 110, 126, and 138, respectively.
Lelik won his first four bouts by first-period fall in 48 seconds, 1:14, 35 seconds and 1:19. He faced Owego’s Vitaly Sirotkin in the championship round, losing by fall in 3:58.
Houston started the day with a 13-3 major decision, then won by fall in 1:36 and 1:06, before dropping a 12-0 major decision to Owego’s John Cornwall. He finished the tournament with a 38-second fall to end up 4-1.
Shipman was 3-1 on the day with pins in 47 seconds, 1:03 and 4:58. HIs lone loss was 4-3 to eventual champion Hunter Parker of Elmira.
Avery Davis went 3-2, scoring pins in 51 seconds and 1:10 before pulling out a 10-9 thriller over Trumansburg’s Colt Doolittle in the placement round.
Logan Davis (138), Wyatt Dillow (215) and Jack Blomberg (285) all placed fourth.
Logan Davis was 3-2. He pulled out an 8-7 squeaker in his opening bout, and added pins in 53 seconds and 3:34.
Blomberg went 2-2 with pins in 19 seconds and 4:19. He dropped a 2-1 heartbreaker to Brock Rosemark of Elmira, who went on to win the weight class.
Dillow’s day included falls in 3:28 and 2:21. He was 2-3.
Shane Douglas (165) took fifth with a 3-2 mark. His wins came via pins in 53, 23 and 50 seconds.
Travis Middendorf (144) was 2-2 with falls in 1:22 and 1:50.
Sheldon Houston (103) and Kenny Slater (118) both went 3-2.
Houston scored an 11-3 major decision, won by medical forfeit and by pin in 1:52.
Slater recorded a pin in 3:21, and a pair of tech falls, 19-4 in 1:36 and 17-2 in 1:14.
Adam Kunze contributed a 23-6 tech fall in 4:22 and Andrew Kunze added a pin in 2:31.
