ELMIRA — Five Spencer-Van Etten / Candor wrestlers remain alive in the consolation bracket at the Southern Tier Memorial wrestling tournament being held at LECOM Events Center here.
Rodney Vaow (132 pounds), Kameron Westbrook (138), Kaden Jameson (144), Gabe Benjamin (150) and Jak Smith (285) can still reach the podium with strong showings on day two of the tournament.
Vaow went 2-1, winning by a 22-3 tech fall in 44:9 and a pin in 1:05.
Westbrook was 2-1 with a pair of quick pins to his credit — 32 and 22 seconds. He will face Newark Valley’s Logan Rhodes in an elimination bout.
Jameson posted a 3-1 record with three falls. The pins came in 3:30, 2:26 and 1:44.
Benjamin won three of his four matches. He scored a 21-3 tech fall in 2:40 and an 18-3 tech fall in 3:41, and also recorded a 51-second pin.
Smith went 3-1 also. He started the tourney off with a 15-0 tech fall in 1:23, then registered pins in 2:06 and 32 seconds.
Brennan Zimmer (138) and Connor Breed (215) both went 1-2. Zimmer chalked up a 19-4 tech fall at 5:20 while Breed added a 33 second pin.
