HS WRESTLING: NEWARK VALLEY’S CREELEY, WOODIN REACH SEMIS; THREE OTHERS ALIVE AT SOUTHERN TIER MEMORIAL (January 9, 2026)

ELMIRA — Newark Valley’s Cadin Creeley and Logan Woodin have advanced to the semifinals of the Southern Tier Memorial wrestling tournament being held at LECOM Events Center here.

Both wrestlers went 2-0 in opening day action Friday.

Creeley, the No. 2 seed at 165 pounds, recorded second period falls, dispatching his opponents in 2:26 and 2:44. He will face third-seeded Jared Watson of Schuyler in the semis. Both are state-ranked.

Woodin, the No. 4 seed at 150, decked his first opponent in 49 seconds, then won an 8-3 decision to reach the semis. He faces top-seeded Logan Willis of West Genesee, who is ranked fifth in the state in Division I by New York Wrestling News.

The Cardinals have three other grapplers competing in the consolation bracket.

Logan Rhodes (138) is 4-1 so far with an 8-2 decision, a 17-1 technical fall in 2:06, and pins in 32 seconds and 3:42. He will face Spencer-Van Etten/Candor’s Kam Westbrook in an elimination match.

Marcos Escalante went 2-1 at 144 with falls in 52 and 50 seconds on his stat sheet.

Titus Callahan (190) pulled off a pair of third-period falls before suffering a loss. His pins came at 5:32 and 5:17.

Elijah Williams went 1-2 at 175 with a 5-3 decision in his favor.

NV did not bring its full team.

Second day action starts at 9 a.m. Saturday.
