IAC BOYS BASKETBALL: T-BURG TURNS AWAY NEWARK VALLEY (January 6, 2026)
Tioga County Sports Report
TRUMANSBURG — Trumansburg avoided an upset here Tuesday evening, turning away Newark Valley, 63-53, in an IAC Large School crossover game.
“A Tim Wojtysiak bucket with three minutes to play put us within one, but several of our next offensive trips came up empty and Trumansburg capitalized at the other end,” said coach Scott Stratton. “We got good looks. We just didn't convert.
“We certainly had opportunities. Their top scorer went out early in the second quarter with foul trouble, and we did not take advantage of his absence.”
The Blue Raiders, an honorable mention in this week’s Class C state poll, couldn’t shake NV early as the game was tied, 15-15, after one quarter and knotted at 25 at the half.
T-burg managed to work a 42-39 lead through three periods of play, then held off the Cardinals as Arlo Peake scored 11 of his game-high 24 points in the final frame.
The Raiders went 8-for-9 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter. Jacob Taves was 4-for-4 and Peake was 3-for-3. Dafydd Williams added a 3-pointer.
Wojtysiak, who led NV with a 21-point effort, notched a dozen points in the final eight minutes, including a 3-pointer.
Aiden Clark-Cabezas contributed 12 points to the victory, Emmett Asbrand added eight, Williams had seven, and Taves and Amare Tucker chipped in with six apiece.
Tristan Veruto scored 10 points for NV and Austin Green tacked on another nine. Nate Hinckley had seven points and eight rebounds, and Cooper Davis added six points and nine boards. Wojtysiak grabbed six boards.
The Cardinals (3-3) head to Lansing Friday.
