STAC BOYS BASKETBALL: OWEGO FALLS TO STATE-RANKED SETON CATHOLIC (January 6, 2026)
Tioga County Sports Report
BINGHAMTON — It clearly was not Owego’s night as the River Hawks fell to state-ranked Seton Catholic, 84-27, in STAC Central Division action here Tuesday.
The Saints pumped out more than 20 points in each of the first three quarters while holding Owego to single digits in every period.
“I suppose in my final year the basketball Gods are gracing me with a new experience,” said coach Chris Evans. “I've never been involved in a game like this.
“Seton is an excellent prep school, well-coached, and very strong. Not sure why they are in a public school league, but that's the way it's played out.”
Angelo O’Connor scored eight points and Allan Eagles tacked on another seven as Seton jumped out to a 22-7 lead in the first quarter.
They were able to build a 46-16 halftime cushion as Eagles nailed down another 10 points and Liam Kozel added eight.
The River Hawks weren’t able to turn things around in the third period as the Saints extended their advantage to 72-23 with Eagles scoring nine more points and Kozel adding six.
Seton took advantage of Owego’s foul troubles, going 26-for-33 at the free throw line. Kozel went 6-for-6, Eagles was 6-for-7 and O’Connor went 4-for-4.
The Saints also connected for seven 3-pointers, including two apiece by Eagles and O’Connor. Somewhat surprising was the fact the River Hawks had no threes to their credit.
Eagles led all scorers with 26 points, Kozel scored 22 and O’Connor added 10.
Carter Rieg led Owego with seven points and Duke Snyder had five. Nolan Card, Noah Christ and Kingston Brainard scored four points apiece, and Calvin Smith tacked on three more.
“We will get better, we have no choice,” Evans said. “I love my kids. They'll continue to grow as players and as people.”

The Wildcats extended the lead to 27-16 at the half as Tiesi canned another trey and added four more points. Snyder and Rieg scored five and four points, respectively, for the River Hawks.
