H.S. GIRLS WRESTLING: CRAFT WINS TITLE; TWO TEAMMATES REACH PODIUM IN OWEGO'S 6TH-PLACE FINISH AT PALMA TOURNAMENT (January 3, 2026)
Tioga County Sports ReportALFRED, N.Y. — Owego Free Academy senior RaeAnn Craft won an individual title and two of her teammates reached the podium here Friday to lead the River Hawks to a sixth-place finish at the Dorothy Palma Classic at Alfred State University.
Senior Tatum Kowalski placed third in the 132-pound bracket, and senior Isabelle Taylor was fourth at 165 pounds for the River Hawks.
Horseheads won the team title with 196.5 points, while Canandaigua Academy was second with 132.5 points, and East Rochester was third with 126.5 points. Owego tallied 85.5 points and SVEC was 18th with 27.5 points.
Craft was 3-0 — all first-period falls — to win the 145-pound title.
Craft decked Ithaca's Kailynn Holmes in 38 seconds in the quarterfinals, then flattened Webster's Mallory Denton in 17 seconds in the semis.
In the finals, Craft pinned Aliyah Teets of Horseheads in 1:19.
Kowalski was 3-1 on the day to finish third in 132-pound bracket.
Kowalski opened her day with a pin of Falconer's Skylar Miller in 1:51, then scored a 10-0 technical fall in 3:37 over Geneva's Siulmarie Rosado Diaz.
After losing via first-period fall to Horseheads' Lily Vesek in the semifinals, Kowalski decked Ithaca's Zinnia Faraday in 52 seconds in the third-place match.
Taylor was 1-2 to finish fourth at 165 pounds.
Taylor registered a pin of Pennfield's Juliet Hardenburg in 1:36, then lost her next two matches, including the third-place match.
Freshman Michaela Daly was 2-2 in the 120-pound bracket.
Daly opened with a pin of Webster's Eva Eichelberger in 55 seconds, but lost her next bout via technical fall.
Daly rebounded with a pin of Falconer's Brylie McAdoo in 1:37, then lost her second wrestleback match via a technical fall.
Senior Carissa Chandler was 2-2 in the 126-pound bracket.
After recording a 27-second pin of Canandaigua's Piper Jones in the opening round, Chandler lost via technical fall.
She bounced back with a 14-second pin of Falconer's Nylah Sharpe in her first wrestleback match, then lost via fall in the second round.
Senior Ashlee Crawford-Bauer was 1-2 in the 114-pound bracket, winning her opening-round bout via fall in 2:10 over Falconer's Avery Frazier.
Freshman McKenna Wilbur was 1-2 in the 138-pound bracket, winning her first wrestleback match via a 27-second fall over Pennfield's Elizabeth Popovich.
Freshman Lauren Kotski was 0-2 at 138 pounds, and freshman Lucy Purtell was 0-2 at 107 pounds.
