HS WRESTLING: NEWARK VALLEY’S LELIK, SLATER GARNER BRONZE AT ELINSKY TOURNEY (January 3, 2026)

HANCOCK — Andrew Lelik and Kenny Slater took third place to lead the Newark Valley effort at the Stan Elinsky Lumberjack Wrestling Tournament here Saturday.
Lelik went 4-1 at 110 pounds. He started the tourney with a 20-9 major decision, then scored pins in 3:02 and 35 seconds. He fell to eventual champ Vitaly Sirotkin of Owego by a 19-1 tech fall in 5:33, but closed out the day with a pin over Christian Gasperini of Port Jervis in 3:28.
Slater was 3-1 at 118. He opened with a 10-2 major decision, then recorded a pin in 1:21. He lost by fall to Owego’s Robert Curley in 3:12, but won his consolation final over Logan Lisberg of Port Jervis by fall in 3:51.
Logan Davis took fourth at 138 with a fall in 3:11 to his credit.
Sheldon Houston was fifth at 103. He went 3-2 and scored falls in 1:35, 53 seconds and 2:39.
Four Cardinals grabbed sixth-place spots. Travis Middendorf (144) and Jack Blomberg (285) both went 2-3 while Avery Davis (110) and Jacob Shipman (126) were 1-4.
Middendorf posted a 19-4 tech fall in 4:17 and also had a pin in 5:28. Blomberg chalked up two pins in 50 seconds and 1:11. Davis notched a fall in 1:31 and Shipman collected his win in 24 seconds.
Adam Kunze (103) and Michael Wandell (144) were seventh, both going 2-3. Kunze recorded falls in 2:49 and 3:26 while Wandell had a pin in 3:02 and an 18-3 tech fall in 4:50.
Anthony Kunze went 2-3 with quick falls of 45 and 55 seconds.
Also competing for NV was Shane Davey.
M-E won the team title with 297.5 points, followed by Port Jervis with 237.5, Deposit/Hancock with 160 and Owego with 133.5. NV was seventh with 90.
