HS WRESTLING: OWEGO CROWNS TWO CHAMPS AT ELINSKY TOURNAMENT (January 3, 2026)

HANCOCK — Owego’s Gavin Lovell and Vitaly Sirotkin captured first-place honors at the Stan Elinsky Lumberjack Wrestling Tournament here Saturday.

Lovell went 5-0 to win the 103-pound weight class while Sirotkin avenged his only loss of the day to win at 110.

The River Hawks also had a pair of runner-up showings and a third.

Lovell, ranked 13th in the state by New York USA Wrestling and 19th by New York Wrestling News, opened the tourney with a 17-0 tech fall in two minutes. He then recorded pins in 44, 44 and 41 seconds. He defeated teammate Cael Daly, 6-0, to take the gold.

Sirotkin decked Gabe Natale of Port Jervis in 3:46 while trailing, 1-0, to claim the title. Natale won their first meeting of the day by fall in 1:52 with Sirotkin up, 3-2. In his other matches, Sirotkin wrapped 20-4 (3:00) and 19-1 (5:33) tech falls around a 75-second pin to go 4-1.

Daly also went 4-1 on the day. He started off with a 15-0 tech fall in 3:43, then added a 13-0 tech fall in five minutes and a 13-0 tech fall in 2:50 before recording a pin 1:38.

Robert Curley (118) was the other runner-up. He recorded falls in 3:08, 26 seconds, 32 seconds and 3:12 before falling to Maine-Endwell’s Larry Tull in the championship match by fall in 1:24.

Claiming third was John Cornwell at 132. He registered a 19-second fall, then added pins in 1:28 and 45 seconds, before dropping an 11-1 major decision to Kade Mustin of Oxford/Greene. Mustin is ranked fourth by New York USA Wrestling and fifth by New York Wrestling News. In the third-place bout, Cornwell posted a 14-7 decision over Levi Grim of Port Jervis.

Trevor Monell (215) was fifth at 3-2. After dropping his first two matches, he battled back with falls in 46 seconds, 1:59 and three minutes.

Sullivan Morgan took sixth at 132. He was 2-3 with a pin in 3:52 and a 5-0 decision to his credit.

Lucas Stephens (118) and Anthony Neumuth (285) both went 1-4 to place eighth. Stephens scored a fall in 29 seconds and Neumutch had a 4-0 victory.

Carson Desmond (132) was 10th, going 2-3 with falls in 2:54 and 48 seconds, while Brainard (165) was 11th, recording falls in 2:15 and 1:03.

M-E won the team title with 297.5 points, followed by Port Jervis with 237.5, Deposit/Hancock with 160 and Owego with 133.5.
