IAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: S-VE'S LATE COMEBACK BID FALLS SHORT IN 50-44 LOSS TO HARPURSVILLE AT KAZLASKI TOURNEY (December 29, 2025)

BAINBRIDGE, N.Y. — Spencer-VanEtten trailed by 24 at the half, but put together a furious rally late in the second half that came up just short in a 50-44 loss to Harpursville in the opening round of Kazlaski Tournament.

The Hornets stung S-VE with three 3-pointers in the first quarter on the way to a 20-9 lead after the first eight minutes.

Adriana Hartman, who had 21 points and a trio of 3-pointers in the first half, pumped in 13 points in the second quarter to fuel a 20-7 blitz that gave Harpursville a 40-16 lead at the half.

Kaidence Root scored five points in the third quarter, but the Panthers only managed to trim four points off the deficit with a 9-5 spurt to make it 45-25 heading into the final eight minutes.

In the fourth quarter, Lauren Gillette scored nine points and Trinity Dashler added four points as S-VE used a 19-5 outburst to close the gap to six in the final moments.

Gillette led S-VE with 15 points,14 rebounds and two steals, and Root had 12 points, three rebounds and three steals. 

Kendall Gentile scored seven points and dished out three assists in the win, while Dashler added four points, and Kaylee Kastenhuber chipped in with three boards.
 
Hartman led Harpursville with 23 points and three 3-pointers, and Gabriella Pawela added 15 points.

S-VE squares off with Windsor in the consolation game Tuesday at 1 p.m.
