CLIFTON SPRINGS, N.Y. — SVEC junior Katelyn VanEtten placed fourth and senior Tayah Beach finished fifth here Saturday at the second annual Frosty Freestyle Festival at Midlakes High School.

SVEC finished 21st in the 36-team field with 43 points, well off the pace of team champ Niagara-Wheatfield, which had 169 points, and runner-up Fulton, which tallied 162.5 points. 

Windsor was the top Section IV finisher, placing seventh with 108.5 points, and Waverly was ninth with 85.

VanEtten was 2-2 to place fourth in the 235-pound bracket.

She scored a 60-second fall over Niagara-Wheatfield's Selene Torres in the opening round, then decked East Rochester's Grace Bishop in 1:55 in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, VanEtten lost via technical fall to two-time reigning New York State champ Peyton Mullin of Dundee-Bradford-Penn Yan.

In the third-place match, VanEtten lost via first-period fall to Mullin's teammate, Zoey White.

Beach was 4-1 t finish fifth in the 120-pound bracket.

Beach opened with a 10-0 technical fall of Irondequoit's Leah Legares, but lost via fall at 4:32 to Fulton's Gionna Allen in the quarterfinals.

She bounced back with a 63-second fall over Chatauqua Lake's Gionna Allen, then scored a 10-0 technical fall over Niagara-Wheatfield's Nevaeh Seine in 1:16 in the consolation semifinals.

In the fifth-place match, Beach rolled to a 17-6 technical fall of Canisteo-Greenwood's Akaylay Christian in 1:37.

Freshman Elizabeth Kunte was 2-2 in the 107-pound bracket.

Kunte was locked in an 8-8 battle with Cicero-North Syracuse's Beauty Chin in the opening round when she scored a fall at 3:38.

After losing via technical fall in her next match, Kunte scored a 12-2 technical fall in 34 seconds over Fulton's Riley Nentarz, but was eliminated shy of the podium with a loss to Chatauqua Lake's Kortlyn Fairbank.

Sophomore Abigail Russell was 0-2 at 138 pounds, and freshman Madalyn Jayne was 0-2 at 126 pounds. 

SVEC returns to action Jan. 2 at the Dorothy Palma Memorial at Alfred State University.
