STAC WRESTLING: OWEGO HAS THREE ALIVE IN WRESTLEBACKS AT HAINES MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT (December 27, 2025)

OSWEGO — Owego has three wrestlers alive in wrestlebacks here after Day 1 of the Ken Haines Memorial Tournament at SUNY Oswego.

Junior Trevor Monell, and sophomores John Cornwell and Vitaly Sirotkin will resume action in the consolation bracket Sunday morning.

Monell was 2-1 in the 215-pound bracket Saturday. He opened with a 19-second fall of Watertown's Maddox John in the opening round, then dropped a 5-3 decision to Michael Pease of Cicero-North Syracuse in the round-of-16.

In his first wrestleback match, Monell built a 10-2 lead before finishing off Canandaigua Academy's Mason Michaelsen in 2:55.

Sirotkin was 1-1 in the 110-pound bracket. After losing a 15-2 major decision to West Genesee's Nico Bresadola in the opening round, Sirotkin built a 9-0 lead before pinning Central Square's Pete Macko in 2:47.

Cornwell was 2-1 in the 138-pound bracket. He opened with a 15-4 major decision win over Webster-Thomas' Wyatt Noon, then lost via technical fall in the second period to Cicero-North Syracuse's Kasey Kalfass.

Cornwell stayed alive in the consolation bracket with a come-from-behind 9-8 win over Canandaigua Academy's Jonathan TeRiele. Cornwell trailed 8-0 midway through the second period, then hit a seven-point move to close the gap, and a takedown with 9 seconds remaining in the third period for the win.

Sophomore Robert Curley was 1-2 in the 126-pound bracket, winning his first consolation bracket match via fall in 2:14 over Altmar-Parish-Williamston's Miguel Diaz.

Senior Jaydin Brainard was 0-2 at 175 pounds.
