TIOGA COUNTY SPORTS REPORT: CANDOR'S MAKIE, OWEGO'S HAMED SHARE 'VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR' HONORS; CANDOR'S SOPER, HEIDL, QUINLAN, TIOGA'S ZORN, ROSSI ALSO EARN TOP HONORS (December 25, 2025)

Tioga County Sports Report
TIOGA COUNTY — Athletic and dynamic, Candor junior Emmi Makie and Owego senior Maggie Hamed share a number of common traits on the volleyball hardwoods. They also share the TCSR 2025 All-Tioga County "Volleyball Player of the Year" honors.

Candor senior Nicola Soper is the "Offensive Player of the Year," while Tioga senior Audi Zorn is the "Defensive Player of the Year," Tioga sophomore Vida Rossi is the "Newcomer of the Year," and Candor junior Malley Heidl is the "Breakout Player of the Year."

Longtime Candor coach Pam Quinlan is the "Coach of the Year."

Makie, a tremendous all-around athlete, recorded 218 service points, 266 kills, and 100 digs. She also had 58 saves, three assists and seven blocks.

Hamed, a powerhouse hitter, registered 270 kills, five blocks, 38 service aces, 132 digs, and five assists.

Soper, a powerful force at the net, had 249 kills, 172 points, including a team-high 78 aces, 74 digs, eight blocks, and three assists.

A disruptor at the net, Zorn altered many more shots than she blocked. She ended the season wit 28 blocks, 127 kills, 93 digs, 13 assists and 12 aces.

Long and athletic, Rossi had 124 kills, 46 digs, nine aces, six blocks and one assist.

A true floor general, Heidl, who saw some time during Candor's state title run last year, was a key cog in the Coyotes return to the state finals this year. She dished out 510 setter assists, to go along with 189 points, including 48 aces, 177 kills, three blocks, and 55 digs.

Quinlan directed Candor to its 14th Section IV title during her reign, as well as its sixth trip to the Class D state final four.

Quinlan has four state titles to her credit, and came up just shy of a fifth this fall.

Lily Mezzatesta, senior, Tioga:
A heady and versatile player, Mezzatesta had 144 kills, 175 digs, 16 service aces, six setter assists and five blocks.

Lauren Gillett, senior, S-VE: A force in middle, Gillette had a school-record 243 kills, 33 blocks, 137 service points, including 41 aces, 78 digs and four setter assists.

RaeAnne Feeko, senior, Tioga: A tremendous all-around athlete, Feeko recorded 277 setter assists, 52 aces, 174 digs, 54 kills and 15 blocks.

Bella Miller, senior, Owego:
A skilled setter, Miller had 433 setter assists, 72 digs, 51 aces and 24 kills

Amani Diboun, junior, S-VE: Diboun had a school-record 321 digs, including a school-record 34 in a match against Newfield. She also had 100 points, including 22 aces, 21 kills, and 18 assists.

Brilynn Belles, senior, Waverly: A good all-around player, Belles plays all the way around the floor. (No stats provided.)

Evelyn Howe, senior, Owego: How recorded 73 kills, 27 blocks, 22 digs, eight aces, and three assists

Jill Teribury, senior, Candor: Teribury had 171 points, including 38 aces, 63 digs, 23 assists, and four kills.

Andy Wallace, senior, S-VE: Wallace had a school-record 271 service points, including 57 aces, 180 digs, 52 kills and four assists.
