STAC GIRLS BASKETBALL: OWEGO FALLS TO CHENANGO FORKS, 62-37 (December 13, 2025)
Tioga County Sports ReportBINGHAMTON — Owego Free Academy played defending Section IV champ Chenango Forks close until halftime, but the Blue Devils took control in the third quarter on its way to a 62-37 win here Friday night in STAC girls basketball action.
"We competed hard for all 32 minutes," said Owego coach Luke McEvoy. "Forks went on a few runs in the first half, but we were able to work our way back into the game by halftime.
"The third quarter got away from us when they were able to capitalize on our turnovers, second-chance shots, and we didn't finish opportunities on the offensive end.
"There are a ton of positives to take away from an early-season game against another high-quality opponent," added McEvoy. "This game will prove to be a great learning experience as we will be able to revisit the film to show where we can make adjustments both individually and collectively as a team."
Forks jumped out to an 18-7 lead after the first quarter, but Owego closed the game to 25-21 at the half with a 10-7 advantage in the second quarter.
Oregon State-bound Maggie Warpus paced Chenango Forks in the first half with 12 points, including a pair of 3-pointers, while Marielle Searles and Jenna McEvoy combined for 15 points to keep the River Hawks in the game.
In the third quarter, seven different Blue Devils put their names in the scoring column in a 20-5 blitz that extended the lead to 45-26 heading into the final eight minutes.
Forks duplicated the feat in the fourth quarter and closed out the game with a 17-11 advantage.
McEvoy led Owego with 13 points, three assists, and three rebounds, while Searles had 11 points, five rebounds and one blocked shot, and Ashlyn Dalton added six points, five steals and one blocked shot.
Jana Nikulich chipped in with four points and seven rebounds for the River Hawks, while Eva Crawford contributed eight rebounds and four assists, and Katelyn Dodge grabbed five boards.
Warpus led Forks with 18 points.
