ELMIRA — Titus Callahan and Cadin Creeley dominated the competition at the Dave Buck Memorial Wrestling Tournament here Saturday, winning weight class titles to lead Newark Valley to a fourth-place finish.
Callahan, the top seed at 190, went 5-0, pinning four of his opponents in the first period and capping his performance with a 15-0 tech fall over Central Square’s Jack Taskey in 2:47. His falls came at 24 and 29 seconds, and at 1:27 and 1:56.
Creeley was the No. 2 seed at 165 and pinned his first three opponents in 1:06, 1:53 and 2:38. He was leading Anthony Weaver, 3-1, in the finals when the top-seeded Windsor wrestler injury defaulted.
Callahan improves to 12-0 on the season and Creeley is now 11-0.
Elijah Williams was the runner-up at 175, going 3-2 with falls at 37 seconds, and 1:38 and 1:39.
Marcos Escalante (150), Logan Woodin (157), Wyatt Dillow (215) and Jack Blomberg (285) all brought home the bronze.
Escalante, the No. 3 seed, went 4-1 with an 18-1 tech fall in 2:25, 16-3 and 13-3 major decisions, and a 4-0 decision.
Woodin was seeded second, but dropped his semifinal by a 4-1 sudden victory to eventual champion Anthony Decapio of Marcellus. He started the day winning by 8-5 and 17-11 decisions, and won his third-place bout with a 13-2 major decision.
Dillow, the seventh seed, went 3-2 with a pair of second-period falls and a 10-3 decision to his credit.
Blomberg came in as the eighth seed and went 4-1. He decked the fourth seed in 5:48 to start his day. He pinned the ninth seed in 1:58, the fifth seed in 1:46 and the sixth seed in 3:53.
Taking fourth was Logan Rhodes (144). He scored a 21-4 tech fall in 5:04, a pin in 2:42 and dispatched the second seed in 58 seconds. Both of his losses came to the top seed.
Avery Davis finished fifth at 110 with a win by fall in 48 seconds.
Logan Davis (138) was sixth with a forfeit win, Andrew Lelik (118) was 2-2, Kenny Slater (126) went 2-3, and Travis Middendorf (144) added a 55-second fall. The trio placed seventh. Leland Houston (138) was eighth with a win by medical forfeit and Michael Wandell (144) took eighth.
Also competing for NV were Sheldon Houston (103) with two wins, Adam Kunze (103), and Jacob Shipman (126), who went 2-2.
Marcellus won the team title with 292.5 points, Central Square and Elmira tied for second with 175.5, and the Cardinals were fourth in the 11 -team tourney with 168.5 points.
NV hosts Marathon Wednesday in IAC action. It’s the Cardinals’ first home dual meet of the season.
